Ball-Handling - One Ball Drills

When you first get to the gym to play or practice, try warming up using these ball-handling drills:

Ball Slaps Smack it hard - be strong with the ball.

Circle Spin the ball around your body 3 or 4 times, then reverse and go the other direction.  Spin around your:

  • Head
  • Waist
  • Knees
  • Ankles

Spirals Start like you are doing Circles around your head, but with each revolution move the ball lower until you circle your ankles, then spin the ball back up to your head.  Reverse direction and repeat.

Figure-8s Without letting the ball hit the floor, pass the ball around and between your legs in a figure 8 pattern.  After 5-6 rotations reverse direction and repeat.

Dribble Figure-8s Dribble the ball in a figure 8 pattern around and between your legs.  After 5-6 rotations reverse direction and repeat.

Pound-its Get into a stance and dribble the ball at your side, pounding the ball into the floor.  Do 20 dribbles on one side then switch to the other site.  Repeat 2-3 times.  Make sure you are using your fingertips and wrist.
